They are just like shoelaces!
This is a saying I use a lot. And, I want to explain it to you, as there is a great message in it.
I was running an Ultramarathon earlier this year, and at about the 45k mark (of a 96k run), I broke a shoe lace. So what, you say. Well, try running up and down major inclines and declines with loose shoes. And, I use elastic laces, and am very particular about the pressure on my feet (anal, you might say).
So, what has all this got to do with the price of rice in China?
Well, shoelaces are such a minor thing. They are such a little part of your clothing. They are really not something that you think about often. Until they break.
Now, here is the upshot of my broken shoelace. I will never go to an ultra marathon, or even a triathlon, without a spare pair of shoelaces. So, from now on, I am going to be prepared. I am going to take care of the minor details, as well as the major ones.
The key message for you is to consider what little things you have overlooked? What may prove to be very uncomfortable or inconvenient if you don’t get it right – if you don’t do the right level of preparation?
Think about your services, your sales pitch, or even your next job interview. Without preparation, these things will be extremely difficult, and not delivering your very best effort could be costly for you and your business.
So, really, all you have to do prior to your next big even it to:
- Prepare
- Prepare
- Prepare
Easy.
