Not in your genes …

On Tuesday, October 5, the West Australian Newspaper printed an article titled:

Key to happiness not in your genesThe article started off with the comment: Sad people are not doomed to gloom forever, according to research that shows happiness is not dictated by genes.

Yep, and …

It went on: Instead, it found your choice of partner and life goals drastically affects your satisfaction with life – overturning the popular theory that happiness is largely decided by personality traits moulded early in life and genetic factors.

Got the first bit, but popular theory … interesting …

The article finished: The study, the first to track happiness over a long period, followed 60,000 Germans for up to 25 years. People who prioritised their relationships were happier.

Huh …

Not a strong finish to the article, so I thought, how could an article on happiness be written in such as way that people could understand it and be able to take action immediately on its recommendations.

Here goes:

Happiness is your choice.

Without studying many people, and without any popular theories, those people that are most happy with their life appear to simply have made a decision to be that way. They appear to choose to be happy, rather than gloomy. It seems to be quite easy to be happy, and it appears that anyone can do it. And, what has also been noticed is that happy people seem to spend time with happy people. The gloomy also seem to stick together.
