The knock down

Ever since I was little I have loved the Rocky movies. Rocky Balboa is like a real person to me, he could live around the corner.

Rocky is the ultimate story of the underdog who wins against the odds, and love him or hate him, there are some key messages in his movies.

If you ever watch the latest movie in the series, there is a scene where Rocky is talking to his son and explaining why he wants to get back in the ring after a long retirement.

The son (self absorbed) tells Rocky that he is too old, he can’t do it, and that it is embarrassing for the son to watch his dad try to do this thing.

Now, in one of the best ways I have ever seen, Rocky explains to his son:

When you were a boy, you just did what ever you wanted to. You could do anything. Then you grew up, and you let other people determine what you can and can’t do. And now, you want me to listen to you. I know what I can achieve, and although I have been knocked down a bunch of times, and might get knocked down again, it is not about that. It is about how many times you get back up that counts. Life is about getting back up off the canvas.

Well said Rocky.

Then, in the following scenes, you see Rocky’s son ring side with his dad, living the dream, and cheering and willing his dad to win.

Very touching, especially for us dads out there.

And, the message is so true, and always will be.
